I'm Dreaming of Pallet Tables

...just like the ones I've seen on Pinterest. :)

Eric and I have tossed ideas back and forth about what we'd like our dining room table to look like, as well as what we'd like our coffee table in the family room to look like.  We came up with a few ideas, but here's our inspiration for the dining table:

We are hoping to build a dining room table made for six people.  The chairs may not be set up like the above picture (we may put one chair on each end), but you get the idea.

Here are some ideas we like for a coffee table:

We have really been digging the herringbone pattern.  We're not 100% sure if we'll do that design on the coffee table or on the dining table, but I can bet one of the tables will be done in that pattern.  The first table we are planning on building is the coffee table.  Right now we have a very outdated wooden table with wonky legs (wonky is an understatement).  We are just waiting for it to collapse one of these days.

As you can see by our inspiration pictures, we are very into the "pallet" like tables.  I looked and looked awhile back for what seemed like forever to see if I could find any reasonably priced dining tables.  All of the search results I was seeing were putting dollar signs in my head and making my eyeballs pop out.  Too pricey for us!  So we figured, why not use pallets?  They are easily found on Craigslist and/or from people you know and are most of the time free.  Who can pass up free wood?  So we made a FB post a few days ago asking for pallets.  My uncle responded and is willing to let us take some pallets off of his hands.  Our dear neighbors also had some pallets that they wanted to part with.

Here are the pallets we received from our neighbor:

We are very much in love with the fact that they are all a different color and that some are different sizes.  Now we just need to get to work on prying the boards off and sorting them by size.  Then we will sand them and hopefully make some awesome tables.  Stay tuned to see the finished products (it'll probably be a week or two before we get a coffee table built--the dining table will be built at some point down the line).

I will leave you with this picture because this is where we are at with this project:

Do you have plans to DIY a coffee table or dining table?  What is your inspiration?  Have you ever worked with pallets?  Feel free to give us some pointers in the comment section below! We hope you have a wonderful weekend! :)
